It all begins with an idea…

When I first started coming to island in the late 80’s, I remember taking my dad out on a day sail as a gift and really loved it.  As I looked around for the power boat equivalent, there weren’t any.  There were plenty of fishing charters, but no power boat leisure cruises, and only 2 day sail sailboats.  So I started my own - starting small, taking just rental home guests as a perk for renting a home with us.  I really enjoyed it, went to Mass Maritime to get a Captains License and around 2001, created MV Leisure Charters, Martha’s Vineyards Original Leisure Boat Charter Company.

About The Captain

MV Leisure Charters (originally MV Boat) was the idea of Captain Edward Miano.  “Captain Ed” has spent over 40 years on the water, the last 30 off the shores of Martha’s Vineyard.

Initially conceived as a perk for guests in the family rental home, MV Leisure Charters grew into the island’s first power boat day sail.

As Captain Ed explains it;

“When I first started coming to island in the late 80’s, I remember taking my dad out on a day sail as a gift and really loved it.  As I looked around for the power boat equivalent, there weren’t any.   There were plenty of fishing charters, but no power boat leisure cruises, and only 2 day sail sailboats.  So I started my own -starting small, taking just rental home guests as a perk for renting a home with us.  I really enjoyed it, went to Mass Maritime to get a Captains License and around 2001, created MV Leisure Charters, Martha’s Vineyards Original Leisure Boat Charter Company.

In 2006, the original ‘Island Time’, a 20′ Hydra Sports 202 Dual Console was replaced with the current boat, a Hydra Sports 2500VX, also named “Island Time’.

I love the name and the idea of island time, which is to be unhurried, away from the pace and madness of mainland life. Our trips are chill, casual and relaxing.  I appreciate and enjoy each group that I meet and take out.” This view of life ties in with my other work as a massage therapist/bodyworker. I teach and practice a Hawaiian form of bodywork which is very special and unique. Also, in my youth I studied martial arts and became a black belt in Kempo karate. This started an appreciation of Eastern philosophies and a Zen way of life. When I am not on the water, or working hands on with people, I pursue photography.

In my travels, to Europe, the Caribbean, and other destinations, I developed an appreciation for naturism and a clothing optional lifestyle. Although with some Americans there can be a giddiness or immaturity associated with this freedom, I have been fortunate enough to experience it in the best manner and settings and offer this experience to guests who may be interested. I am happy to speak about all or any of it on board.

- it occurred to me in writing this at this very moment that in my various pursuits I am advocating for or least promulgating a lifestyle or way to live.

Getting back to the boat, Island Time has played host to celebrities, weddings, engagements and engagement reunions, – but mostly it is a sanctuary for friends, families, couples and individuals to relax and enjoy the unique beauty of Martha’s Vineyard in a way that can only be done from the water.

We thank you for having a look and hope you become one of the countless groups that make Island Time and its pleasures an annual tradition.

Aloha!
